Interview date: 26 July 2017

The role will support the x-ray microscopy facility, including two Versa 510 and 520 microscopes, at the Future Technology Centre as well as associated techniques including extensive in situ facilities and digital resources.

The X-ray microscopy facility is currently producing strong academic outputs, securing significant external income and providing opportunities for collaborations across multiple disciplines within the university as well as nationally and internationally. Specific areas of excellence include imaging related mechanical understanding of complex structures, bioengineering, bioinspiration and imaging-additive manufacturing relationships.

The successful candidate should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: x-ray microscopy, mechanical behaviour of structures, biological structures, modelling and image analysis. The x-ray microscopy facility has a number of external partners and strategic links, and the position is expected to contribute to maintaining and growing these links.

The post is based at the School of Engineering, University of Portsmouth, with the appointment effective from 1st August 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups in science and engineering. The University of Portsmouth holds an Athena Swan bronze award and is committed to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for men and women.
